Challenge accepted y’all.

What is Whole30?

Long story short, a way to reset your health, habits, and relationship with food. I’ve also read that Whole30 is sometimes used if people have food allergies. They cut out the things that cause most of the problems (dairy, grains) and see how their body reacts.

What do you have to cut out?

  • Added sugar, real or artificial
  • Alcohol….(sensitive subject)
  • Grains
  • Legumes (this includes peanuts and peanut butter and no beans of ALL KINDS)
  • Dairy
  • MSG, carrageenan (no idea what that is) or sulfites
  • Baked goods, junk foods or treats with approved ingredients (no “Whole30” approved pancakes allowed)

So what can you actually eat?

  • Real food (meat, seafood, eggs, veggies, fruit, herbs, spices and seasons)
  • BACON!!! Read your labels but bacon is allowed…yasssssssss!

Are you trying to lose weight?

NO, NO, and NO!!! It’s called the Whole30 Program not Diet. So many people have freaked out on me thinking that I’m doing this to lose weight. Or that I’m doing this because of my wedding. They could not be further from the truth. Weight loss is a “side effect” but that’s not my goal at all.

Why are you doing it?

I’m doing the Whole30 Program for myself. Period. I would always hear of people doing “dry January” (cutting out alcohol for the month of January) and I said “I could never do that.” As soon as I uttered those words I thought, challenge accepted, “Yes I can!” As busy of people that Sheldon and I are, I want to prove that if you are willing to do something that time is not an excuse. Making time for your health should be your number one priority always! When we are young we take our bodies for granted (I know I have) so now I’m being more kind.

Are you doing it alone?

Oh God no! Thank God for Sheldon who is doing it with me and a couple of friends.

When is your last day?

My last day is March 27 (insert praise hands)

How are you “celebrating” the end?

Y’all, I timed our Whole30 perfectly to end 3 days before we go to The Brewer’s Plate!!! If you don’t know, The Brewer’s Plate is a food and beer fest held at the Kimmel Center in Philly. You pay for your ticket (VIP or general admin) and when you arrive are given a glass. You can go to as many breweries represented as much as you want as long as you have a glass! Needless to say I’m counting down the days!
