Bringing you another “what to wear Wednesday” post and today is styling a dress in winter.  No matter how you shop, you should always shop with intention.  Intention to get the most out of the pieces in your wardrobe.  As you get older, you will start to pay more attention to quality over quantity.  When I shop, I fall in love with pieces.  Sometimes I fall a little too hard lol.  This dress is one of those purchases for me.  It’s florals so more appropriate for the Spring but I love it so much I challenged myself to style it in the winter.

The result….I’M OBSESSED!  I love this look better than the first way.  A key to making a dress such as this or any appropriate for colder months is layering.  Layering is probably my favorite thing about the colder months.  Items to make your dress look and feel weather appropriate are:

  1. Add a long (statement) coat.  Hello, it’s winter and it’s cold, wear a coat boo.  I froze and died a little bit when I took my coat off for these pictures.
  2. Layer a shirt or sweater under or over the dress.  When worn underneath the dress, it adds dimension to the look.  If worn over the dress then you are wearing the dress as a skirt.  I really love the way this dress looks with the shirt underneath.  Just pay attention to your silhouette and don’t lose your waist.  This dress already cinches at the waist so I didn’t have to worry about that.
  3. Tights/socks.  Even though I opted not to wear them, do it.  I only had black opaque stockings and they looked weird with the black heels.
  4. Wear it with boots or booties.  Boots or booties instantly give your look a warmer feel.
