Today I’m talking about building your wardrobe! I’m so excited for today’s post/video because I’ve been wanting to do this for so long. One of the main problems for women is getting caught up in great sales or trendy pieces and then one day we take a look at our closets and are like “where did all of this stuff come from!?” Trust me I’ve been there. And those days when you say “I have nothing to wear” (while staring at a closet full of clothes) you really mean it. Your closet is now cluttered and the items you NEED aren’t there. Let’s get to the basics!
Basic Pieces for Building Wardrobe:
T-shirts: Short sleeve t-shirts are great whether they are worn alone or used for layering underneath another shirt. They can be any color or print
Long sleeve shirts: Once again, look great worn by themselves or used for layering
Chambray shirts: More on the trendier side, these shirts can be worn with anything such as shorts, skirts, tied up with a maxi dress or with jeans which is called a “Canadian Tuxedo”
Neutral colors: Of course it’s great to have color in your wardrobe, it’s also great to have neutral colors such as black, white, navy blue and gray as well.
Classic prints: Nothing too crazy to start with. Just talking about the classic prints like polka dots, leopard and my favorite…stripes!
Maxi dresses: We all love maxi dresses. They are the easiest outfit and can be styled many ways by adding a denim or leather jacket (depending on season), chambray shirt, scarf, or even a sweater to layer on top.
Skirts: It’s great to have a mixture of different types of skirts. These will be some sort of mini skirt, midi (or calf level which is my favorite), pencil, or maxi
Blazers: Easiest way to dress an outfit up without trying. They can also be worn with anything. You can have regular length, cropped or even boyfriend blazers (my favorite)
Sweaters: A traditional pullover or cardigan will do. They are great for layering!
Jeans: Jeans are essential and can be worn a ton of ways from casual to dressy. Be sure to have different types like skinny, distressed, wide leg, straight leg and also make sure you have a black and white pair.
Once you’ve got these items, you are on your way to a more versatile closet and you’ll never be “caught in the same outfit twice.”
