Today we are talking about finding outfit inspiration using Pinterest. First off, if you don’t have a Pinterest account…you should. Second, if you do have a Pinterest account, find and follow me @vidafashionista. Third, be prepared to get hooked. I know I’m not alone when I say this, but I could literally pin for hours! Many people ask me how I choose outfits to put together. The trick I cheat. Maybe it’s the stylist in me but I can’t take wearing an outfit “as is”. For example: jeans and a t-shirt. I will never wear it that way. I might do a front tuck on the tee, add some funky earrings, statement bag and mules…done.
Other times when I am stumped on what to wear, I think of something I liked on someone else. Maybe I loved the whole look. Maybe it was the color combo or texture mixes. This is when I turn to Pinterest. Since doing this, I love the items already in my closet even more. You will start to see different ways to wear what you already have. The outfits that I obsess over, I will try to recreate head-to-toe. Here’s how to do it.
- Search for a look you LOVE! If looking for outfits, do a search of “women’s fashion” or “spring outfits”. Want to get more specific? Do a search for “Thanksgiving outfits” or “outfits for lunch”.
- Make sure you have similar items. In order to “recreate” a look, you have to already have similar items in your closet. No need to go out and buy them.
- Add your own twist to it. Keep it fun and add your own style to it. Think of it like writing a research paper. Without giving credit to the person that wore the look, it’s technically like “plagiarism”. Avoid being “that girl” and look like sisters not twins, as my eyebrow lady says lol.
This will take some practice and getting used to but be patient. The results are always cool.
I am heading to a fun luncheon today that I will elaborate more on at another time. Have a great day!
