Today I’m sharing how I’m staying healthy during the holidays. First off let me start by saying I have no intentions of restricting myself or dieting lol. I love food too much and the holidays always call for home cooked meals, my grandmom’s sweet potato pie and lots of drinks! What I do plan on doing…working out. Although I might have to purchase this super greens supplement packed FULL of goodness I just don’t think I can pass up the opportunity.
At Home Workouts
I have been making a point to working out at least 3-4 days a week. If I can get to 5 days, that’s ideal. It doesn’t have to be a full on sweet and gym session, a home workout will do. Especially now since we are moving, I will not have a fitness center steps away from my house. You bet there will be lots of home workouts going on in our basement. Sheldon and I just talked about starting Insanity once we move. Yes, I am slightly terrified but I only hear great things about the workout. I prefer home workouts too because you can workout at your own pace, no one creepily staring at you and you’re home! If you want, I can do a blog post on my favorite at home workouts.
Staying Hydrated
Did you know that many times your body confuses being hungry when you are actually thirst? I remember I heard that years ago and thought no way. Believe it or not, sometimes when you get a hunger pang, try drinking a glass of water first. Also with the holidays, we know there is lots of drinking. Let’s be real people. I plan on trying to drink more water whenever I am drinking out with friends or at home.
Signing Up For A Class or Class Package That Expires
Ok. Raise your hand if you are guilty of having a gym membership, paying for it each month, but somehow to making your way to the gym? *Raises hand. Been there done that sister! For some reason, I find it so un-motivating to use a class package or sometimes even work out if I’m not forced too. Class packages that don’t expire make you feel like “I’ll go tomorrow” “I’ll go next week.” If you get a class package or even just sign up for one class that has an expiration then you have a set date that you have to use it by. It probably has something to do with psychology but trust me, give it a try. My sister in law got me a Barre3 class last year that expired within 2 months and I used it right away…and loved it!
Schedule Workouts For the AM
Whether or not you are a morning person, getting a workout in first thing when you wake sets the tone of your day. For me it makes me more alert and I feel proud knowing that I got it out of the way. I can get on with the rest of my daily tasks. There is nothing worse than a midday or even after work/evening workout (for me personally). When you come home from work, the last thing you want to do is put on clothes to go to the gym. You just wanna chill. Midday workouts seem to drain me and then I’m no good for the rest of the day. Sheldon doesn’t know this, but I am planning our insanity workouts before he starts his work day lol.
Dance Classes
Duh! Lately in particular salsa classes and social salsa dancing. Dancing is my first love and any chance I can get to take class or dance I take it!
Buy Cute Workout Clothes
Hahaha y’all may think I’m nuts but I get way more motivated to work out when my gear is cute. Just like when people say “I’m nicer when I like my outfit.” It’s a thing I swear! You paid money for it, now show it off lol. The workout gear I’m wearing in this post is a local Philly brand, Addison Bay. I never gave it much thought before but my workouts are always more effective when I have a matching set on. If you’re thinking of getting yourself a matching set too, have a look into workout apparel sites such as RyderWear.
