Have you ever wanted to become a morning person but you “can’t”? As my favorite quote by Henry Ford: whether you think you can or you can’t either way you are right”. So, let’s focus on the can.
I never had an issue getting up in the morning. Obviously it’s not fun BUT the results are incredible. The saying “the early bird catches the worm” is very true. Waking up earlier allows you to get a head start of the day without the normal distractions of other people being awake. Some of my best ideas and energy come in the wee hours of the morning. I think most people don’t wake up early because they fear that they are losing sleep. Keep reading for my personal list of ways to become a morning person.
- Keep curtains open in bedroom. If a room is pitch black, you never know what time it is. There is nothing like the sun “slapping” you in the face telling you to wake up. The plus side: you will start to see some AMAZING sunrises!
- Set an alarm everyday. Yes on your days off too. I strive to get up at 6am EVERYDAY.
- Go to bed earlier (duh). OR Dedicate a certain number of hours per night to sleep. Waking up early does not mean to get less sleep and this is how you prevent that.
- Me time. Take at least 5 minutes in the morning when you wake to not be on your phone. You can gather your thoughts, stretch, pray, think and visualize your day as you want it to go. This has helped me tremendously lately.
Doing these things won’t instantly make you a morning person. You might probably even still hate/dread waking up early. The more you practice doing the things on this list, the easier it will get,
you just may still hate getting up early. I’m to the point that I don’t even need an alarm clock to wake up. Don’t forget, you aren’t alone. Many successful people wake up early. The benefits outweigh the negatives.
