Let me start off by saying this, I am by no means an expert, but I like to experiment with my clothes and see what suits me this best. I’m getting back on track with “Style Tip Saturday” and today I’m showing the art of the shirt tuck. What I should have done was show you a side-by-side of the tuck verses the regular way to wear the shirts. My bad!!!! Hopefully I can make you feel/look like that “cool” chick that really did try to look good today but made it look effortless. Here we go!
The Front Tuck
Shirt: T.J. Maxx // Hudson jeans // Shoes: Macy’s // Chloe + Isabel necklace
I wear many button down shirts and the one thing that happens with them is that you lose your shape when wearing them if they aren’t a fitted shirt. To avoid this, I like to do a “front tuck.” It’s really simple. Do this by tucking your shirt in at each hip bone and you add a little dimension to your shape.
The Full Tuck
Shirt: Temptation // Shorts: Marshalls // Shoes: DSW // Purse: T.J. Maxx // Michael Kors watch // Chloe + Isabel necklace
When doing this, beware of looking like Steve Urkel…any 80s babies in the house? You want to look “effortless and cool” like you didn’t try (but secretly you stood in the mirror for 15 minutes trying to perfectly “untuck” your tucked shirt). You want to be more like “Stephan” than Steve Urkel (please tell me you watched “Family Matters”). Anyway, I always do this “full tuck” by completely tucking in the shirt and pulling whatever bottoms I am wearing up to my belly button. I then raise my arms up which somehow untucks my shirt perfectly. Beware: make sure after you put your arms down and your shirt is looking good that you pull your bottoms down. I guarantee if you don’t you will have a wedgie…you’ve been warned.
The Half Tuck
Vest: T.J. Maxx (similar here) // Shirt: New York and Company // Jeans: Bang Bang // Shoes: J.Crew // Louis Vuitton Speedy 30 //Chloe + Isabel necklace
The last way I tuck my shirts is the “half tuck.” I’m not gonna lie, I felt like the coolest person on the planet doing this. It just looks so cool lol. In the above look, I wanted to look dressed up but super casual at the same time. In comes the half tuck. I didn’t even know this was a thing but I thought it looked great when I did it so I rolled with it a loved the result. To achieve this tuck, (depending on the shirt) I leave the last button unbuttoned or in this case, there was enough shirt left after the last button. I then tuck the shirt in from where the buttons would meet over to my hip bone. BOOM! I instantly look “carefree” and so will you!
There you have it. I really hope this tips help you in some way. If you try it, leave me a comment below and let me know how it goes!
