One thing we know that’s inevitable are weddings. Some of us know what it feels like to have wedding season come in full effect. I’ve had it pretty easy this year but the I have two coming up that are almost back to back. One question people always have is “what do I wear?” Here are some easy rules to follow:
- Don’t wear white (or ivory). Don’t be that person. It’s the brides day and her time to shine. All I can say is just avoid it altogether and find another color.
- Find out if there is a theme or color scheme. This is the biggest day of the bride and groom’s life. No they can’t force you to wear their chosen color scheme or make you go along with their theme but at least be kind enough to take it into consideration. If the dress is “black tie” or “formal” don’t show up in a sun dress. And besides, it gives you an excuse for a new outfit and theme weddings are so fun!
- When in doubt, overdress but keep it simple. I’ve been to weddings where some girls literally put on one of their club dresses…and the wedding is held in a church! I’ve also been to weddings and people wore jeans (I cringe). Here’s my rule of thumb: if you have to stare at yourself in the mirror and wonder if the dress is too short or too tight…it probably is. You should always dress to impress. You know you feel good when someone says “hey I love your outfit” or “you look great!” Leave the freakum dress home Beyoncé lol. And no jeans.
I feel like I’ve covered the basics for attire. Now there will always be exceptions to the rules (i.e. beach weddings) but make it fun. This is the best time of your friends’ lives and they invited you as a guest for a reason. Live in the moment with them and enjoy it!
